Tucked deep within the forest, this restored kominka remains hidden from view—its only neighbour the gentle Shiba River, whose flowing presence can be heard from the engawa, weaving a constant thread of serenity throughout the day. Nestled in the heart of Inokashira’s barely touched woodland, the site offers a profound sense of seclusion while still lying within reach of Tokyo’s outer bounds. Mornings begin with the soft rustle of leaves and filtered light through sliding shoji screens, as crisp, cedar-scented air flows into the home. This is a place to retreat, reflect, and reconnect—where nature is not a backdrop, but an active companion.
